What Is Triptorelin?

Triptorelin is a prescription drug that stimulates the pituitary gland that is sold under the brand names Gonapeptyl and Decapeptyl. As Triptorelin stimulates the pituitary gland, it decreases the secretion of luteinizing and follicle stimulating hormones. This drug is mostly used to treat subjects with prostate cancer.

What Are Triptorelin Benefits?

• TESTOSTERONE SECRETION IN SOME MALES SUBJECTS – The way Triptorelin is used can change testosterone levels early during prolonged treatment protocols. It however can lower levels if used to high of dosage for the subject. This shows that Triptorelin used dose dependent can increase testosterone levels.
• PROSTATE CANCER – Triptorelin has shown to lower the 10 year mortality rate to less than 5% in prostate cancer subjects. Triptorelin also has been shown to reduce weekly frequency of severe symptoms from nearly 50% to 14% overall in prostate cancer patients.
• FERTILITY – Infertility has many factors but it has been shown in trials that Triptorelin has helped subjects with cancer preserve fertility while undergoing chemotherapy. It helped by around 20%
• IMMUNE FUNCTION – Rat research indicates that LHRH directly modulates the thymus and thus controls a crucial part of the immune system. Aging leads to a reduction of LHRH agonist binding sites on the thymus, which causes to a 50% decrease in the thymic mass over a longer time.This causes immune system problems and dysfunction. How Does Triptorelin Work?

Triptorelin is a GnRH agonist, which stands for Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone. It stimulates the hypothalamus, the part of the brain that regulates and controls the male and female hormones. Triptorelin initially stimulates the pituitary for it to secrete luteinizing hormone for testosterone production and follicle-stimulating hormone for sperm production before inhibiting their functions.

Triptorelin works by increasing one’s testosterone levels first before decreasing it. Its long-term effect is a decrease in testosterone levels, which is why it is used to treat subjects with prostate cancer. Most prostate cancers spread because of high testosterone levels. Triptorelin will eventually decrease testosterone, but not before giving it a boost.
